How to Fix a Stackble Washer Dryer Combo

If your stackable washer-dryer develops a spin problem, determine and fix the problem following these steps.

CAUTION: Unplug the machine before attempting any repairs.

Is the Water Draining?

Your machine won't spin if it's not draining. To solve this, find the drainage problem.

Unplug the machine before attempting any repairs. Make sure that there are no kinks in the drainage pipe. You may find that the hose needs to be replaced due to a break somewhere along the pipe.

Another common issue is a clogged pipe. To fix a clogged pipe, take the hose off the washer-dryer, and place a screwdriver in the pipe to find clogs and pull out any debris.

To remove the pipe, take off the back access panel; your instruction manual will inform you of how to do this correctly and safely. Lean the machine toward the wall — make sure it doesn't touch the wall — and steady the machine by placing blocks underneath it.

Place a bowl underneath the opening of the pipe to catch everything before removal. Use the water pump pliers to undo the spring clips holding the pipes onto the pump, and twist and pull the pipe off. The pipe may come off while removing the spring clips.

Once all debris is removed, place the hose back on the washer-dryer combo, plug it back in and turn it on to try again.

Is the Lid Closing Properly?

If the machine drains properly, make sure the lid closes correctly. If you don't hear a click when you close it, the lid switch may not be working. Your instruction manual will tell you the replacement lid switch that you need to buy and how to fix the problem.

If the switch is bent and not broken, straighten it carefully with some pliers. Be careful. Too much force will cause the switch to break

Are the Belts Broken?

Pull the washer-dryer combo away from the wall to see whether the belt is broken or damaged. Use a screwdriver and wrench to remove the back of the machine following the manufacturer's instructions.

Use a flashlight to check inside the machine and examine the belts. Replace any of the belts that are loose or broken. Put the back of the stackable washer-dryer back on. Plug in the machine and turn it on to see if this has fixed the problem.

Does the Pump Need Cleaning?

If the pump has become clogged or needs cleaning, the washer-dryer won't drain or spin.

Turn the machine off and remove the back access panel of the washer-dryer to access the pump, as mentioned earlier. Lean the machine toward the wall, making sure it doesn't touch the wall. Steady the machine by placing blocks underneath it.

Place a bowl underneath the pump opening to catch all water before removing the pump itself. Use the water pump pliers to undo the spring clips holding the pipes onto the pump, then simply twist and pull the pipes off.

Unplug the electrical connector to the pump of the washer-dryer combo. This is located at the top of the pump. Remove the small screws holding the pump in place in order to take the pump off the stackable washer-dryer combo.

Use a screwdriver to remove anything that's blocking the pump. With the pump removed, you can make sure it's thoroughly clean.

Check for any possible damage to the pump, such as broken pieces. If it's damaged, replace it. Check the manual to find out the make and size of the pump to buy a replacement

Once the stackable washer-dryer pump has been cleaned or replaced, place it back on the machine and try using the machine again to see if the problem has been fixed.
